Dr. Per-Mats Janarv is a Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeon working at the Capio Artro Clinic and Associate Professor at the Karolinska Institute. He is also the director of the Stockholm Sports Trauma and Research Center, a network at the Karolinska Institute for research and education in sports medicine.
He published his thesis on Paediatric ACL injuries and ATS fractures in 2000. The thesis was based on experimental studies and his clinical experiences with ACL reconstructions in children. In recent years he has been the main supervisor of PhD projects regarding traumatic patellar dislocations in children. The purpose of one of the upcoming PhD projects at the research center is to improve the MRI technique in pediatric ACL injuries in order to get a more individualized treatment. The projects will also include an evaluation of treating the injury with a rebound ACL-brace.
During his period as the chairman of the Swedish Society of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeons, he was one of the founders of the Swedish Pediatric Orthopaedic Quality Registry; SPOQ (www.spoq.se). One of the conditions in the registry is “Acute serious knee injury”. More than 700 knee injuries in the age group 9 – 14 years are now included in the registry.
