Joanna Thomas is a Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in the paediatric knee at Southampton Children’s Hospital.
Jo qualified from the Royal Free Hospital and School of Medicine, undertook higher surgical training at The Royal London Hospital and fellowship at Southampton Children's Hospital. Jo has set up a paediatric knee service at Southampton and has a special interest in paediatric ACL injuries, meniscal injuries, Osteochondritis Dissicans and patellofemoral pathology.
Jo’s most recent research project won the short presentation prize at BASK 2018.
Jo is passionate about teaching and runs a yearly arthroscopic skills course for regional trainees and regularly teaches on courses both here in the UK and abroad. She is also an ardent ligament registry believer for paediatric ACL injuries, to ensure more long term evidence for this controversial area.
Jo used to be a keen mountaineer and has summited Mt McKinley as well as leading and participating in winter mountaineering expeditions. She now spends her time away from work with her husband and young family.
